Welcome to the inaugural newsletter, featuring Safe Roads Coalition history and current events that effect your mobility within your community.

We want to keep you informed about local and nation roads issues and hope you enjoy what we have put together for your reading pleasure. If you would like to help the Safe Roads Coalition or wish to contact us about issues that you are working on please do so at the link below. We appreciate the help we have received from many volunteers and supporting companies. If you have needs that one of our supporters or supporting companies can meet, we hope you will contact them first. We wish all of you a safe journey regardless of the manner you choose to use our public rights of way. We have selected recipients based on previous contacts with the Safe Roads Coalition and it major supporters. Update on Current Safe Roads Issues

The Safe Roads Coalition members are working hard with city leaders and other community organizations to ensure that all new construction and repair projects incorporate Complete Streets principles for bike and walk ability. The Coalition is actively working to make Durango and La Plata County a safe place for kids and their families to walk or ride a bike to school. Learn all about the Safe Routes to School program by clicking this LINK


The SMART 160 Trail Project

Have you heard of the proposed SMART 160 trail? The SMART 160 plan began in 2000 as a concept to develop a trail from Durango to Bayfield, a distance of about 20 miles. To learn more about the great community effort working on this trail, click this LINK
