More Meetings and Events
There are several up and coming roads advocacy, cycling events and public meetings in the very near future we would like to make you aware of.
National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project:
Durango will be participating in the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project. Our data will go into the national database and will serve as baseline counts to help us discern what kind of impact our future improvements to the system have on mode shift, which will effect funding, project priority and more! For more information on the methodology and the project please visit the National Bicycle & Pedestrian Documentation Project website.
Durango Multi-Modal Transportation Coordinator needs your help to conduct Bike/Ped Counts.
The counts will take place on September 8-10, 12 & 13. There are 7-8 locations and will need volunteers for each location for 2-hour shifts although volunteers may do more than one shift. That’s a bunch of Volunteers!
What the volunteers will need to:
1. Attend a training session (approximately 40 minutes). Amber will host at least 3 sessions.
2. Volunteer for at least one 2 hour block of time.
3. Attend the Celebratory Party in their honor (plans are in the works)
A doodle account has been set up for volunteers to register for times they are available for training and counting:

The 8th annual Durango Century is coming July 26th. This annual 100 mile event (with shorter option) is scheduled to start and finish in Durango after a tour south into New Mexico. For information and/or to register, please visit the Durango Century web site, or go directly to Active.com.
The City of Durango and the Multi Modal coordinator want to know, do you like to wear red? Do you like to ride a bike? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then join the bike procession for the grand opening of the Durango Intermodal Transit Center! They are organizing a bike procession from Buckley Park to the opening ceremonies for the Transit Center, on August 14th.
Meet at Buckley Park at 9:30 am, to leave at 9:45 obeying all traffic laws, and wearing red shirts if possible (DWC and this year’s Bouré jerseys are perfect!) and head to the Transit Center where if they can find 2 volunteers we will have a Bike Valet. There will be small ceremony and ribbon cutting then we will have refreshments, tours of the LEED certified Transit Center, and so much more. For additional information please contact amber Blake, 970-375-4949 or BlakeAK@ci.durango.co.us
The 3rd annual Tour de Farms will take place Sunday, Aug 31. There will be 2 rides to choose from - one geared for families (approx 5 mile relatively flat course) that will tour the city of Durango urban and backyard gardens; and a longer, 20 mile ride in and around Ignacio that will tour Fox Fire Farms and La Boca. There will be an all local foods BBQ lunch, local beer and root beer from Carver's, music and prizes after the rides at the Smiley building backyard. Registration will be available at the Healthy Lifestyle La Plata website after August 1.
Healthy Lifestyle La Plata (HLLP) will be sponsoring a PLACE (planning active community environments) training on Friday, October 23. Anyone interested in helping create and plan communities that encourage and support active transportation options, especially biking, should attend this workshop. This will be a follow up to Dan Burden's Healthy Communities workshops (Jun 09) that presented solutions to automobile-centric infrastructure and roads. Presented by Colorado Physical Activity & Nutrition Program at the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment and the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute, and sponsored by HLLP. Registration will be available at Healthy Lifestyle La Plata website in mid-September.
